Students attending this lecture series follow the development of different types of stories in ancient (jodai) Japanese literature, such as the Kojiki, Nihon Shoki, and Fudoki. They examine aspects of ancient people—including their sense of time and space as well as their conceptions of nature—and contrast them with those of modern people, and also consider the characteristics of ancient literary works.
