About Our Program

About Our Program

Global Studies for Inter-Cultural Cooperation is a new interdisciplinary program which was established at the Faculty of Letters and Education, Ochanomizu University, in 2005. This program is structured on the three interrelated themes: 1) Area Studies; 2) Cross-Cultural Communication; 3) International Relations and Cooperation. Why these three themes? Because without comprehensive understanding of cultures and acquiring the way to communicate with others, we could not establish fair relationship or collaboration between societies. Students are encouraged to develop their own idea and attitudes for inter-cultural cooperation in a globalizing world, which would be a key for them to play an active role in world-wide business, cross-cultural education and governmental and non-governmental activities related to the task.

We provide a wide variety of courses with new perspectives including a series of field studies, overseas researcher’s intensive English seminars, and collaborative workshop with overseas students. These give students good experiences, motivation and communication skills for inter-cultural cooperation. After three years’ course work, students are expected to elaborate their original work as a graduation research.
